Matt possesses extensive experience across middle- and long-distance running, having competed at an international level in the 800m and 1500m from 2006 to 2013 before transitioning to the half marathon and marathon. He placed 5th at the Australian National Championships in the 800m on two occasions and 2nd at the Australian National Junior Championships.
Matt made his debut in the half marathon and marathon in late 2017, running 1:22 and 2:59 respectively, before steadily lowering his personal bests over subsequent years to 1:06 and 2:18. He continues to compete over longer distances, having now raced 20 marathons, with a long-term goal of breaking 2:16 in the marathon in the coming years.
Matt obtained international Track & Field coaching qualifications through Athletics Australia between 2007 and 2015 and has coached over 350 runners to personal best performances.
Since founding the media company Sweat Elite in late 2016, Matt has interviewed, spent time with, and filmed training sessions of more than 250 professional athletes. He applies many of these learnings directly to his coaching.
Matt is particularly passionate about helping runners break their half marathon and marathon personal bests, while remaining open to coaching middle-distance athletes globally.
